Mission Statement

Functioning within the Hereford Residential College Community, Hereford Student Senate [HSS] is a student-run, self-governing body composed of elected students from each of the five houses at Hereford and the Hereford principal.  This group meets regularly to shape the residential life at Hereford College in a forum open to all members of the Hereford Community.  HSS exists and functions under the Hereford Residential College Constitution and its amendments.  HSS keeps the best interests of Hereford students at heart and thereby ensures that all activities, events, programs, and improvements at Hereford first and foremost maintain a climate of openness at Hereford that allows for resident interaction and involvement.  To this end, HSS’s main purposes are to: 

1.  generate community interaction and involvement at Hereford College. 

2.  maintain and ensure a community of openness and acceptance of the diverse backgrounds and lifestyles at Hereford College. 

3.  plan, organize, and hold social, intellectual, and service-oriented events and activities that reflect the diversity and creativity of Hereford residents. 

4.  provide a forum for Hereford residents to voice their concerns and needs and implement action to address them. 

5.  facilitate improvements in Hereford life. 

6.  maintain the Hereford selections process. 

7.  promote the image of Hereford College on a student-, administration-, and Charlottesville-level. 

8.  create interaction between local Charlottesville community members, including professors, and Hereford residents.
