From atop spectacular Observatory Hill, the first land tract purchased by Jefferson for the perpetuity of the University, we seek to reinvent the typical college living experience. At Hereford we foster future leaders by honoring student self-governance. We extend learning through the facilitation of personal and research interactions of students and faculty, and we embrace bold experimentation.
We care about our physical and social surroundings. Through community projects such as our mini-farm, and the construction of a waste veggie oil fuel station, we consistently endeavor to lessen our environmental impact. As for the social environment, our annual 5K race and our future involvement in the Campus Kitchens Program will feed and sustain local families for years to come.
We work to make Hereford a home away from home. Our program of gatherings, banquets, and field trips makes Hereford a special community in which residents and faculty fellows are drawn together to make bonds beyond the classroom. Come share a meal, take a late night study break, have fun, or just relax! Our lawn has hammocks!
We believe that the greatest strength an educational experience can offer is exposure to different perspectives. At Hereford, you will find the most diverse community of residents on grounds, and we celebrate that diversity through programs and educational opportunities that foster communication across cultures, races, ethnicities and academic disciplines.
We are passionate about our offerings of exciting and innovative short-courses, and our many academically oriented events such as book readings, film showings, and sponsored talks. Our experimental approach to learning allows us to pursue and produce knowledge in ways typically not possible in traditional classroom settings.
