Brar Named Best Female Dancer at International Competition
In translation UVa Di Shaan means "UVa's Pride," and the name could not be more fitting. Since the beginning of this year Brar and her fellow dancers have been working hard at perfecting Bhangra, a genre of music and dance native to the Punjab region of northwest India and Pakistan. Although the team began the year with several inexperienced members, hard work and determination throughout the fall has resulted in tremendous accolades and honors in spring competitions. First, the team came away with first place at Virsa Punjab Da a major competition held in Durham, North Carolina. More recently, the team faced stiff international competition at the Punjabi Folk Festival, held at the Surrey India Arts Club, a major Bhangra dance academy located near Vancouver, British Columbia. Although much of the competition benefited from their background at the academy, Brar, a fourth-year Hereford resident was singled out for her outstanding performance and named Best Female Dancer at the competition. Congratulations to Anmol Brar, Hereford Di Shaan!
